| Biography/History | Johan Arnd Aasgaard was born on April 5, 1876. He attended St. Olaf College, United Church Seminary, Princeton Seminary, and the University of Wisconsin. In 1911, Dr. Aasgaard became the fifth president of Concordia College where he remained until 1925. Aasgaard played an instrumental role in Concordia becoming an accredited, four-year liberal arts college. After leaving Concordia in 1925, Aasgaard became the president of Norwegian Lutheran Church of America. He remained in this role until his retirement in 1954. During Aasgaard's tenure, the church merged and formed the American Lutheran Church. Aasgaard passed away on January 13, 1966 in Cokato, Minnesota. Ragnhild E. (Hoyme) Aasgaard was born April 1, 1880. They couple married on April 7, 1902 in Eau Claire, Wisconsin. Ragnhild passed away on February 3, 1958. |
