| Biography/History | "The Gate City Block is actually one of the earliest buildings on Broadway, dating from the first generation of post-fire construction. It was built in 1894 as the O'Neill Block, and totally refaced in Art Moderne style in 1940, by architects Haxby and Gillespie. William Gillespie started the Gate City Savings and Loan Company, which moved into the O'Neill Block in 1940, after Gillespie gave it a facelift." - Fargo's Heritage, by Norene A. Roberts. 1983, p. 57. |
