Biography/History The coal industry helped boost the Noonan economy and population around the 1920s. Around 1908 Elmer Truax, Sr. opened an underground coal mine just outside of Noonan.Soon after several other mines opened up around Noonan, but by the 1930s mining became increasingly expensive and most of the mines around Noonan had closed.
