The
coal
industry
helped
boost
the
Noonan
economy
and
population
around
the
1920s.
Around
1908
Elmer
Truax
,
Sr.
opened
an
underground
coal
mine
just
outside
of
Noonan.Soon
after
several
other
mines
opened
up
around
Noonan
, but by the
1930s
mining
became
increasingly
expensive
and
most
of the
mines
around
Noonan
had
closed.
