| Biography/History | The Dakota Salt and Chemical Company plan, located three miles east of Williston, went into production in 1960. It is a subsidiary of General Carbon and Chemical Co. of Forest Lake, Illinois. The plant mined salt from a 230-foot vein at a depth of 8, 000 feet which was discovered by Amerada Petroleum Corp. when drilling for oil. |
