| Transcription | "Nearing Finish: The Fargo flood control project in the area immediately east of Island Park is now nearing completion, as this aerial picture shows. A massive 28-foot high clay-fill levy which bisects the old river channel and parallels the stream from 1st Avenue South is designed to protect St. John's Hospital, Island Park, business buildings and homes from flood waters. Its height is two feet above the water level reached during the great flood of 1897. Note the levee terminus against a city building upper left. Seeding of the entire area in the center of the photo, including a strip on the Moorhead side, is scheduled to be completed this week." - caption with photograph published in the Sunday Fargo Forum, August 28, 1960, p. C-1. |
