"This was the 2nd house built on homestead of James W. Rutledge, in Dundee Twp. Walsh Co. D.T. Erected in 1886. First claim shanty built in Mch. 1883 and moved into the same month. Shanty was about 150 or 200 ft. from this house, and place out of picture on lower left hand corner. House in left lower foreground. Building with two leanto sheds, Country Store and Dundee P.O. owned by John J. Marifjeren. His son Nels, store keeper and Post Master. Gable end of building seen to right and behind store residence of John H. Marifjeren and family of 3 boys and two girls. Extreme lower right, barns of John J. Marifjeren and in extreme back ground, to left of store, machine shed of John J. Marifjeren. Those in picture. Extreme left, in buggy - Mr. and Mrs. H. P. Harrison. Seated in chair, James W. Rutledge and behind him, standing, son, Fred. S. Rutledge. In front, Left to Right, Marifjerens hired man, John Skaar, nephew of John J. Marifjeren. (Big) Ole Helgeson - 19 years old. Hands on hips, Nils Marifjeren. Store Keeper and Post Master. Compass points. Right of picture, North. Left, South. Rear, West, and front, East." - handwritten in ink on back of cardboard mount.
