Transcription"The body of W.S. Hooper, who perished in Thursday's fire at the Earle hotel, was lowered on the aerial ladder of the Fargo fire department after being found in the burned structure Friday. Supporting the stretcher are Fire Chief Fred Wells (white helmet) and Herman Schulenberg, assistant fire chief (wear white coat and almost hidden). Biography/HistoryHotel built originally as the Waldorf Hotel in 1899, and name changed to Earle Hotel close to time of fire. The four alarm fire started about 7 a.m., Thursday December 13, 1951, in the northwest corner of the third floor. Three people were killed, former Fargo postmaster Winfield S. Hooper, age 79; Mabel A. Sampson, age 76, and Catherine Morton, age 84.
