| Biography/History | The Armory was built as a federal depression relief project in 1934, located at 220 5th Street S. It was home to the Minnesota National Guard, Co. H, 2nd Reg. It was to this facility that Buddy Holly, Ritchie Valens and J.P. Richardson "The Big Bopper", were set to perform the eve of their deaths in a plane accident February 3, 1959. The concert went on in tribute, and it was at this event that Bobby Vee and his band the Shadows got their break into the rock'n'roll business. |
