| Biography/History | The North Dakota State Capitol groundbreaking ceremony took place August 13, 1932, with Gov. George F. Shafer turning the first sod. The ceremony featured chief justice of the State Supreme Court A. M. Christianson as master of ceremonies. The Rev. Opie S. Rindahl gave the invocation. Mrs. James H. Cooper led the crowd in singing "America". Elita McArdle, of the North Dakota Federation of Women's Clubs presented 50 volumes on the lives of pioneer mothers to the State Federation president, Mrs. A. E. Jones and Col. C. B. Little of the State Historical Society. The benediction was given by Rev. Walter E. Vater. |
