| Biography/History | 'The Can Pile' as it is know in Casselton, N.D. was built by Max G. Taubert near his restaurant at the intersection of Highway 10 (now Interstate 94) and Highway 18, just south of Casselton. He got into the habit of tossing empty oil cans into a pile fenced by chicken wire. When it filled the chicken wire, he simply added more chicken wire atop the bottom to add more cans. The structure eventually topped 50 feet. Taubert operated his cafe until his death in 1973. |
