| Transcription | First livery stable built in Park River, Dakota Territory by Christian Erickson. (Placards on livery stable advertising the first circus to show in Park River.) Destroyed by fire - Rebuilt by same man - Destroyed by fire the second time. Curtains in the Windsor Hotel blew into a lamp and started the fire. Jim Hill rented a horse and buggy at the stable to drive north. He gave the Erickson girl 5c. (Jim Hill became a famous railroad magnate - builder of the Great Northern Railway.) The town well was located here. In the picture note the Erickson girl washing doll clothes at the well. - From label with hand-colored print. |
