TranscriptionPostmarked at Grafton, addressed to Hilma Evjen, Minneapolis, Minn. Text reads: "Dear Hilma, I was quite surprised to hear you were in the cities. I have been wondering why you did not write. I am sure you are enjoying yourself. Write me a letter and tell me everything. Have you a position down there? I am well and happy. Lovingly Louise Hanes."

Biography/History"Pictured is the Spanish-American War Memorial on the Walsh county Courthouse grounds. Erected in 1900, the limestone pillar with the soldier standing at ease on top caried the names of those who lost their lives in the Philippines, a brief history of the campaign, the inscription 'You can't stampede the 1st North Dakota' and the inscription 'Erected by Walsh County and its citizens, A.D. 1900, in honor of their heroic dead.'"
