Biography/History"Hoover Stops In Congenial Fargo Visit. A congenial gathering of Fargoans bade "How do you do?" to Herbert Hoover, the only living former president of the United States, on the corner of NP av and Broadway Thursday as he stepped into his car after a short visit with Mr. Stern, Mr. Fowler and others. He stopped in Fargo for about a half hour while en route to Glacier national park with his family. The street reception occurred as word got quickly around the he was in town. The former president smilingly shook hands with all the score of persons standing around his car, from the passerby to the cop on the corner. To Mr. Fowler and Mr. Stern he said: 'Business has entered the pre-election period a year earlier than usual. The 1940 election will be economically, the most important in the history of the United States." - Fargo Forum & Daily Republican, June 16, 1939, p. 5.
