| Transcription | "Paul Fjelde, sculptor of same in front center. Arne Garborg, Norse author, left of P. Fjelde. Schedrup, in Norse costume, 2nd right of P. F., writer-norse. Hans Jerval, editor, writer, lawyer from Norway. Herman O. Fjelde, physician & historian's Norse crowns on two ladies. Solem Norse crown on one lady, a Solem or Mrs. Solem's sister? only daughter has crown, uncle a professor at University of Michigan, U.S.A., year 1940. Only photo of Fjelde's large bridal crown, burned at U. of North Dakota museum display. Much of this arranged by Dr. H.O. Fjelde, then of Fargo, North Dakota. Note different types of Norse costumes, very colorful & beautiful. Price of an average Hardanger dragt, i.e. costume in year 1968 - $125 and up, in Norway, Europe. Mrs Solem-Valdres; A. Garborg-Setesdal" - Handwritten on back of print. According to a source the photograph does not include Arne Garborg, but his wife Hulda Garborg who is to the left of Paul Fjelde. She came to Minnesota for this event alone. |
