| Biography/History | The Village of Ryklowa, Russia was located about two-thirds of a mile from Gzhatsk (now called Gagarin), southwest of Moscow. It really was not a village per se, it was the country estate of one of the plant pathologists that Bolley had corresponded with prior to his trip and subsequently visited in Russia. As noted in L.R. Jones article on Professor Jaczewski in "Phytopathology" ( February 1933): "Arthur Jaczewski was born November 3, 1863, at the family country estate, ‘Rylkowa, ' in the former Russian province, Smolensk, westward of Moscow." |
