| Biography/History | The second man standing from the left is Irwin Clarence Hartje from Hensel, N.D.
John Hartje built the Hartje general store building in 1909. John Hartje operated the store until 1936 when his son, Clarence, purchased it. Clarence operated the store until October 12, 1947, when his son, Irwin, purchased it. The store closed in October of 1986. The Hensel post office was housed in the store for 31 years. Irwin Hartje was the postmaster. |
