| Biography/History | Many organizations worked together to turn the State Plowing Contest of 1964 into a national competition known as the National Plowing Contest and Soil Conservation Field Days. The farm of Elmer and Ramona Fraase near Wheatland was chosen to host the event. Three acres of trees were planted as an example of windbreaks. Fraase planted 300 acres of alfalfa to be used as an airplane runway and parking lot during the event. Power lines and light poles were erected as well as a 250-foot radio tower. Interstate 94 was still under construction, but permission was obtained from the government to open the road during this event, connecting the plow contest with the city of Fargo. |
