| Biography/History | Caroline (Lena) Melby Anderson was born in Blooming Prairie, near Cooperstown, Griggs County, North Dakota in 1884. Olaf Anderson was born in Norway in 1877. His last name there was Bøe. His father's first was Anders, so Olaf took the name Anderson. In 1897, he had settled in Hillsdale Township located in the northwest corner of Wells County. In 1900 Olaf Anderson moved to Manfred. In 1903 Caroline Melby married Olaf Anderson at Vang Lutheran Church in Manfred, N.D. Olaf died suddenly of a heart attack in 1931, and Caroline continued to live in her home in Manfred. She died in 1971, and both Olaf and Caroline are buried at Vang Cemetery near Manfred ND.
Knute and Josephine Melby had two daughters born in Omaha Nebraska, Beatrice Miller Melby born in 1897, and June Woods Melby born in 1900. They moved to North Dakota and lived in Manfred for a while before moving to Grand Forks. |
