| Biography/History | Olaf Tansem was born in 1869 in Norway. He immigrated to the United States of America in 1892 and owned his own home. He is listed in the 1900 census of Manfred Township. Olaf was a blacksmith and a farmer. He worked for Jens Renden and managed the Renden Blacksmith Shop. Mr. Tansem homesteaded northeast of Balfour in 1902 and in 1933 rented his farm and moved to Velva. He died at age 95 in a Minot Nursing Home, a longtime Velva resident. Sarah E. LeGrand was born in Sweden. She immigrated to America and got her naturalization records on August 22, 1899 under the name Sarah E. LeGrande in Wells County. She married Olaf Tansem. |
