| Biography/History | Jamestown College was founded in 1883, six years before North Dakota even became a state. Old Main was erected on the college hill in the summer of 1887. This was "Jamestown College." Here in this one building, the teachers lived with the students who came from outside towns and taught them. With the appearance of Old Main, the institution took on the aspect of a real college, the pride of students and townspeople alike. Like the city that is set on a hill, Old Main could not be hidden, although many a student toiling wearily up the ninety-two steps that led from the valley below would have appreciated a more obscure location. |
