| Biography/History | According to Writer's Block by Bruce Berg there was a Beck Clothing on Main Street or within a stone's throw from the Main Avenue. Morris Beck established Beck Clothing Store in 1906 with A.E. Simmons and L.B. Niemeyer. The company purchased the entire Opera House Block from Lloyds. Beck's Clothing Co. in 1961 was the only firm still operating in Jamestown under its original name, which appeared as an ad in the Stutsman County Democrat as early as September 1905. The men's store advertised "as good all-around overcoats as any tailor can make." Prices were quoted from $10 to $25. The store, dealing in men and boys apparel, remained in business until 1970. "Men were not neglected in the Fifth Avenue array of shops. Beck's Clothing Store was established in the early 1880's and served the male population of Jamestown until into the 1970's. They carried men's and boy's clothing and children's shoes |
