| Biography/History | On September 14, 1909 the announcement was made that Dr. Barend H. Kroeze, then president of Whitworth College in Tacoma, Washington, had accepted the presidency of Jamestown College at the request of the Board of Trustees. Three college buildings were erected in 1910: a girls' dormitory, president's house, and the central heating plant. The President's Home, for which Dr. Kroeze was architect, was largely a gift from the people of Jamestown.
Jamestown College had come of age. Its remarkable growth in the twenty-one year span (1909-1930) was a thing of wonder to people all over the state, but to those who were at the head of it, the growth was simply the outcome of faith and the persistent effort and untiring zeal in accomplishing the thing which was to be a blessing and a benefit for the country and the state. To no one man was this success due more than to President Kroeze whose work in building North Dakota's pioneer college was a mountain peak in the field of higher education. Every step in the financial progress of Jamestown College during that period of time was a record of his efforts and achievements. |
