| Transcription | "U.S.P.R.R. EXP & SURVEYS 47 & 49 PARALLELS.; GENERAL REPORT - PLATE IX.; Stanley del.; J. Bien N.Y. lith.; SHAYENNE RIVER. " - Printed on front of lithograph. "July 8. [1953] Started this morning at 6 1/2 and arrived at the crossing of the Shayenne river after a march of about fifteen miles. Buttes in considerable number are seen ahead, among which the Horse Butte and butte Micheau are plainly visible. Mr. Tinkham, Paul and Henry were out again to-day, making a reconnaissance on the Shayenne. They came in early, having made a very satisfactory examination. We went in to camp about one o'clock, on the east and south side of the Shayenne, and a party was at once detailed to cut wood and prepare charcoal...." Part of text (page 45) accompanying image. |
